Pulse of UX is a research initiative by Kathy Toney, a former CX Leader at Mercedes, in collaboration with uxcon vienna.
Its goal is to understand how UX is experienced, perceived, and valued today - both by UX professionals and by the people who work alongside them.

The practice of UX is constantly evolving, and its future depends on how it’s understood today. From AI to layoffs to organizational shifts, many forces are reshaping the role and perception of UX across industries.

To navigate this change, we need to understand a few key questions:

  • How is UX structured inside organizations?
  • What challenges and opportunities are UX professionals facing right now?
  • How do non-UX collaborators perceive the value of UX?

The Pulse of UX project was designed to explore these questions - and to create a space where the UX community can reflect, share, and learn from each other.

Why it matters

UX has reached a crucial point in its evolution.
In some markets, it might seem like the discipline has matured — or even peaked.
But in many organizations, the work of establishing, proving, and communicating the value of UX has only just begun.

Understanding how UX is practiced and perceived globally helps us see where we stand as a community - and where we need to go next.
